.htaccess and php?

I have an .htaccess protected folder, which seems to work, but if I try to access a php file, it doesn't ask for any username or password. Any other file extension and the htaccess seems to work. All of my HTM, HTML and .txt files require username and password. I even called a friend to get him to check it from his computer and the same problem.

Does .htaccess not work with php? Am I missing something?

Well, I actually had the .htaccess configured properly, but GoDaddy.com doesn't let Apache handle php on virtual servers, some other application does it, so I'm screwed. Now I have to find another way to password protect directories. I'll likely use a PHP script.

Were you able to resolve your problem, brainlag? I am having the same problem with GoDaddy.

Though I find it odd that .htaccess proctects my phpBB board, but not another php script I installed.

Use a cookie ([man]setcookie[/man]) or a [man]session[/man] in your PHP scripts.
