first start

im a newbie in this area, and still learning, please help and correct me if im wrong
my o/s windows2000pro and im now starting to create a web
im using php-5 (php-5.0.0rc1)
my instalation step
1.change the line in php.ini to :
register_globals = on
extension_dir = "E:\PHP\ext"
2.and then install the apache 2.0 (apache_2.0.48-win32-x86-no_ssl)
im kinda confuse when installing the apache server coz im from hardware background
i dont really know what is the meaning of my network domain and server name here (my computer name or my network?)
3.after install apache 2 ,open the httpd.conf
add 3 line
ScriptAlias /php/ "c:/php/"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
Action application/x-httpd-php "/php/php-cgi.exe"
whats the use of this?
and what to do next
is it true that using CGI setup, server is open to several possible attacks?

Well, if I were you i would set register_globas = off
Although many web hosters set it to on, its safer, and easily codable (if u ask me) to have these set to off...

If you just want to "play" offline with apache, u can ignore network and computer name, just leave as it is.

Has for using php as a cgi module, well, i've always installed it as an apache module, check php documentation on this, it's as easy as the cgi.

1st of all i dont have any web programming experience and skill
well,, for the 1st time i think i should try for something easier like phptriad
but can someone tell me plus minus using phptriad
coz i find it quite ez and simple in instalation
and where can i find a php,apache,mysql complete instalation guide for dummy
im hoping for step by step instalation guide

Never used triad... At the early beginning I used PHPDEV from Firepages and it worked quite well, but I decided to learn for myself how all those little configs worked so I went on and installed everything by myself.

Get apache, install it (quite easy and good instalation notes), then PHP (if you read the docs you'll find it a piece of cake installing it under apache) and then MySQL (again good installation procedures although it can be hard to find the right chapter, just look for Installation under Windows).

Try it yourself, when in doubt feel free to roam the forums, that's what they are made to.
