How do I shorten the address I type in the browser?

Hi all

I have two questions. I am using windowsXP, and php5.0.

Q1: I like to know how do I shorten the address I type in the address bar of the browser window. I like to place my file in "c:/phpmysql3e/chapter01/" , how can I just type in the name of the file which is "processorder.php" in the address bar and have my file show on the browser?

Q2: DO I need to create a new thread everytime I have a new issue or do I use the same thread everytime until it is full?

Im not sure its feasable to have it serve the file direct - you will need to have some
pointer for the browser to know where to serve i.e.: http://localhost/filename.php

You should set up a virtual host - which can be nice and short: Apache Virtual Hosts

Hi Ross

Thanks for your reply. I read the link for the virtual hosting on Apache. It was a bit more technical than I might be ready for since I didn't understand most of what they were saying. I am on chapter one of a php book and this is my first time working with Apache.

Is there an easier site to tell me exactely which foder I should go to, and what line should I manipulate to shorten my address writing on the address Bar of the browser?

Am I looking at the right topic "virtual hosting"? Is that what I should learn more about?

Have you got apache & php up and running on your pc ?

If so I wouldn't worry about the length of what you have to type - you will get use to it!

Just keep on learning the basics of php and then once the basics are mastered I'd start looking at the setup of apache and virtual hosts.
