closing HTML tags in PHP?

I looked everywhere for an answer, but I can't seem to find an answer, maybe I'm searching the wrong words.

DO you have to close HTML tags in PHP?

echo '<center><br><img src="http://yoursite.com/IMAGES/warning.gif"><br><br><font size=7><b>!ACCESS DENIED!</font></b><br></center>';
    echo "<center><b><font size=7><font color=\"CC0000\">$REMOTE_ADDR";

On the first line, I closed all the tags and it displays like you would expect.

On the second line, I forgot to close the tags, but it still centers and displays the large colored font.

Is it something to do with the " vs. ' or is it because it's the last line of the code or is it because of some other reason. I'm just curious, it's not really a problem, but something that has me scratching my head.

You do have to close your tags, Using your last line as an example.
echo "<center><b><font size=7><font color=\"CC0000\">$REMOTE_ADDR";

If you add any content following this format, it will format all content the same until the page finds the closing tag that is fomatting the text.

The answer is very easy: The browser can read only valid HTML. It does not matter if the source of this HTML is a static HTML file from the server or if it is generated on the fly by some means of programming language like PHP, ASP, Java, Ruby, Perl, Phyton, ...
You can try to validate your HTML by useing the validator as provided by the W3 consortia (http://validator.w3.org).
