Hi, i will be launching a site on which i will have a friend
invitation service along with some other features. Site is being
made with the help of PHP and MySql. its friend invitation service
is a bit similar to that of www.friendster.com. Now if you go to
www.friendster.com you will notice that when it gives you an option to invite your friends to your list, it allows you to get access to
your msn list on that very site..a user just has to enter his
msn/yahoo id and password on that site and then it shows his full
contact list, and then with just one click it can e-mail all those
users in the contact list. I want that kind of a system with which
users on my site can have access to their msn and yahoo contact
list...after they provide their user id and password. Do you have
any idea on how that thing can be made available on my site...any
help would be greatly appreciated as its a really important part of
my site. Any help (specially with some detailed instructions) would
be greatly appreciated.

Seems to me that you would have to get some sort of permission from Yahoo or MSN... have you tried contacting them to ask how it's done?
It must be possible without their permission... i doubt they gave permission to trillian...
or GAIM (my new favourite IM client)
It's purrty and so clever.
Would seem like it's just socket reads. Download GAIM or trillian and see which ports they're connecting on. Try searching the web to see what kinda of information needs to be sent to get back the correct response.
