Working Out A Discount Rate

All I am not too good on php maths so am looking for some support. 🙂

I sell some products that offer a discount if a bulk purchase is made.

ie.

1 = $1.50

5 for $5.00

My question is does anyone know how I could code this so that it comes up with the final price based on a certain quanity.

ei. Quantity 6

So this is $5.00 plus a remainder of 1 so $1.50 on top of that

$remainder = $quan % $limit;

$price = 1.5;
$limit_price = 5;

$total = $total_discounts * $limit_price;
$total += $remainder * $price;

?>

That should do it. Untested though.
