Mirror an entire site

I want to mirror an entire site on a geographically distant server, including updating any database modifications or changes to any files which may have occurred - on a daily basis.

I have no doubt I could build this solution myself, but I suspect it would be some clunky "while loop" that may be inferior to many possibly better solutions.

Does anyone have any code, suggestions, products, thoughts, or comments that may assist me in my endeavor?

I think you'd be better off writing some sort of shell script to do this than trying PHP.

You could use the mysql command line on the server being mirrored to export the database daily.

Then have rsync or wget download the directory structure on the machine you are mirroring too. Then mysql could drop the existing database and import the new one.

Of course I am assuming mysql but there are similar tools for other DBs. I also assume the database is not huge as this would be a daily full copy. Both rsync and wget can be configured to only incrementally copy but I'm afraid I'm not sure how to do this without using replication on databases.

in my opinion rsync is best approach to use, however u may use php

to update db etc, maintain a last update date in each record. select all the record whose last updated date is greater than the time the last db mirroring was done, then change the last db mirroring date to current 🙂
insert/update those records in your mirror db.

you may get the other file by using socket functions like fsockopen and ftp to your main server and get the file modified since last 1 day (/last time the mirroring was done) and save them correspondingly in your mirror server.
