Story Rankings

Hi Guys,

I have data being pulled out of two tables a 'news' and a 'reports' table, which I want to put them in an order on the frontpage of my site, so say I had:

• Story 1 (From News)
• Story 2 (From News)
• Story 3 (From News)
• Report 1 (From Reports)
• Report 2 (From Reports)
• Report 3 (From Reports)

and on the frontpage I wanted to put them in this order:

• Report 1
• Story 2
• Report 3
• Story 1
• Report 2
• Story 3

So can anybody point me in the direction of any good tutorials in php on the web for assigning ranks to stories?

I am not sure if i am missing something, but seems like all you would need to do is to add a field called rank or sort and assign a number to each story then sort it by that field.
