Hi does anyone know if php can check to see if a certain number is whole or not

Basically I have to work out a bulk discount.

one product for $1.5

five products for $5

so I want a quantity of 6 items.

I need to divide this number and charge of $5 for the first 5 and then an extra $1.5 for the final one.

Can anyone code this for me, I am going nuts trying to sort it

I think it is divide by five and then times the remiander by 1.5. I just dont know how to get the remainder

Hi Thanks for the help but I dont think it quite solves it. I may be wrong but what if someone orders say multiples of 5 and then has a remainder.

I.e

q = 47

p = 1.5

What you put down takes away five and then times the rest by 1.5

so this would be as you said:

47 - $5 = $42

42 * $1.5 = 63 +5

= $68

Instead of this is what I need.

see if 47 divides by five (obviously it doesnt)

so 47 / $5 = 9.4

times $5 by 9 ( round 9.4 to the lowest)

and then times the remaider by $1.5

Hopefully this makes sense I need to no how to round the 9.4 to the lowest value and then find the remainder of the division

$quotient = floor(47 / 5);  //  9
$remainder = 47 % 5;  // 2

"%" is the modulus operator, in case you hadn't run into it before. And floor just rounds down.

i mis-understood the initial post. i thought it was $5 for the first 5 and then $1.50 after that. anyway:

$price = 1.5;
$quantity = 47;

if ($quantity >= 5)
{
	$div = floor($quantity / 5);
	$total = $div * 5;
	$total += ($quantity % 5) * $price;
}
else {$total = $quantity * $price;}

echo 'the total is $' . number_format($total, 2);
