printf-html linker problem

Hi guys,
could someone please tell me this.
I want to implement a download link for a file and right now i know for sure that this is the way to make a direct link on the actual filename.

<a href="download.php?sid=<?php=$sid;?>"><?php=$name;?></a>

However, i want to implement that exact link in the following style linker

printf("<tr><td>%s</td><td>%s</td><td>%s</td><td>%s</td><td><a href=\"download.php?sid=<?php=$sid;?><?php=$name;?></a></td></tr>",

Could someone please indicate what i am doing wrong and how i can fix that???

If you are calling a php function "printf()", you must already by in php. Why are you trying to initiate php again inside of the function then?

ahhhh,
so this is what this does,,, i just could not see it the way this was written.
So i guess i will just need to concatenate the $sid and the $name in the following way???

<a href=\"navigation.php?sid=".$sid.$name."\">

Could you perhaps tell me how i could pass the name variable throughout this link??What i mean is i want to be able to click on the actual name and on the next page get the exact file that i click on and not the last file in my table.
