Query type 'show status'

In the phpMyadmin under Runtime Information I see I have a lot of "show status" queries....

Out of 1,275,758 queries, 890,695 (76%) of them are a "show status" query. Is that normal? I only use select, insert and update in my scripts.

Well something / someone is monitoring your MySQL database.

Do you have MySQL Administrator open ?

Is the MySQL database hosted by a hosting company ?

If so they will monitor it to make sure that MySQL is working / in case it needs to be restarted..

It's my owner server with mysqld-nt running as a service.

To my knowledge nothing else mysql related is running.
