[Resolved] Format my records; how do I create a new line in my records?

Hi all

I think I have the correct format to place each new order on a new line, but the is not what I am getting. What's wrong?

Here is my line of code;

$outputstring = $date."\t".$tireqty." tires \t".$oilqty." oil \t"
.$sparkqty." spark plugs \t\$".$totalamount
."\t".$address."\n";

here is my out put with this line of code after entering two records

17:08, 9th March 2 tires 1 oil 3 spark plugs $222.00 142 Clark St. Somecity, Ca

17:08, 9th March 5 tires 1 oil 0 spark plugs $510.00 1767 Webster ave, Saan Fran

Well, you might not be able to see it in here, but I am getting all the records in one straight line. Where in my control sequence "\n"?

for windows, use \r\n instead of \n

Thank you very much. "/r/n" worked very well.

Different but Similar issue:

On the original formatting code there is a "\t" for tab between the, date and the number of tires; that tab works just fine.

Yet when I use the same tab format before the address, I do not see the result in my text file. There is no tab space in my text file between the "totalamount" and "address". Why?

How could this be that the "/t" control sequence works at one place and does not work in another for the same line of code?

p.s. can you please explain to me what "\r" means or do? I tried using it with "\t" like, "\r\t", but all I got was a small square where I used it. Is "r" used only with "\n"
