x-cart vs OScommerce

Currently I've been using OScommerce. I was reminded recently of X-cart. OSCommerce is pretty good howve when I need help with changes I often run into problems getting help. X-cart seems pretty appealing wtih their tech cupport.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

I just finished working on a big project writing x-cart mods and I will categorically never work on x-cart ever again.
This is the worst code I have ever seen and every person I know who has worked on it has also said once you have seen the code you will regret ever buying it.
The code is sometimes not indented, globals are on, tree logic and code convoluted, globals used extensively and support is just not there.
Probably the thing that really gets me with x-cart is there is no improvement with the coding logic or style, the writer continues with its bad readability.

Remember x-cart forums are closed, guess why…they say its due to protecting legitimate purchasers I disagree.

WOW. In comparison, have you worked with OScommerce as well? I was informed by a programmer I'm acquainted with that OSComerce was know as te blacksheep of e-commerce software because of it's (being a bit of a mess) from so many contributions. What would your thought be on that?

Hi,

I have never worked on osCommerce, I have had a look at the source a while back but not enough to comment on, just be very very careful if you are going ahead with x-cart.
X-cart you will need min 2 years + with php, I know someone who simply walked away from x-cart and started again with another product.
x-cart for its price looks good but i can assure you the cost to custom or maintain with even small changes is horrific.
