Resizing image on upload

Using the GD library, can someone point me in the right direction to automatically resize an image when a user uploads it?

I want to resize it before it actually is uploaded so that only the resized image is uploaded from my form.

I've tried searching Google and can't find anything helpful.

I am using a simple, standard, one file submit form.

PHP runs on the server, not the client. You don't have any image to resize until after it has been uploaded.

Of course the script which receives the file can resize it before saving it to a more permanent location. For that you can search the forums here, since it's been discussed many times.

Ok, I am using the PHP manual version which seems to work well:

$filename = $uploadfile;

// Set a maximum height and width
$width = 200;

if ($width && ($width_orig < $height_orig)) {

HOWEVER, I don't want to display the image - I want to delete the original image and then save this version to the server.

How would I do that?

Nevermind, I got it to work by changing:

// Output
imagejpeg($image_p, null, 100);

to

// Output
imagejpeg($image_p, $uploadfile);
