I Need Major Help!!!!

I am learning php with mysql from a book 😕

I am trying to write a simple php code to retreive the LAST ROW in the FIRST COLUMN from a TABLE in the DATABASE.

I am clueless on how to acheive that goal. Can some please point me to the right direction.

echo $row[0]; // last row 1st col

why query for the entire table if all you need is 1 row?

$sql = 'SELECT `column1` FROM `table` ORDER by `id` DESC LIMIT 1'
$result = mysql_query($sql);
$row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result);
$column1 = $row['column1'];
