Ranking Stories

Hi Guys,

I have two tables - 'reports' and 'news'. Now on the frontpage of my site I want to be able to order these with either the newest created out of the two being put first on the page

or create some kind of ranking page, where it outputs the $heading variable from each 'report' id and 'news' id on a page and displays a text area box which I can then assign them an order:

ie:

heading (from 'reports' table) [ 1]
heading (from 'news' table) [ 2]

Any ideas?

Sorry for being a bit vague. Here is what I’m kinda looking for:

So I want to create a page, where stories from the ‘reports’ and ‘news’ are outputted, so I can change the order I want them to appear on my frontpage.

Something like this, but not sure how I’d go bout doing it…

Any ideas?
