How do I connect to a MySQL db on a remote computer? Is it as simple as changing

  $db = mysql_connect("localhost", "root");

to

  $db = mysql_connect("http://mydomain.com", "root");

You will want to leave out the [url]http://[/url] or just use the IP address of the server.

Pretty much, as long as you set up a user that can access the remote database from either any domain, or specified domains.

If you're using cpanel to set up users to your databases then put % in access hosts to allow connections from anywhere.

Some servers won't allow you access even though you've set up the access from anywhere thing, just hope you're lucky.
