[Resolved] ereg() function

Could someone give a clear example on how to use the ereg() function? I read the documentation but I can't seem to unerstand it 'cause the example is too complex. You see I'm trying to determine if the string $str contains "." anywhere. I think I'd have to use ereg(), but I'm not sure.

for something that simple you can just use [man]strstr[/man] or [man]strpos[/man] ereg is for regular expression matching of certain patterns that dont contain the same data every time. if you are searching for a constant string or character, use one of the above functions, as they are much easier and faster.
