Photo Galleries: How are images constrained?

Hi there,

I have been asked to develop photo gallery but the customer is insistant on the images being constrained to thier original layout for the thumbnails.

Images are correct constraints.

Any suggestions on how to do this without having to specify thumbnail size everytime?

If you're referring to the fact that the thumbnails all have the same dimensions; in PHP that's typically done with imagecopyresampled (search for that function or for the words "photo gallery" in these forums and you'll probably find a number of examples of its use).

I don't know what you mean by "specify the thumbnail size every time".

So is there a way to detect whether an image is vertical or horizontal?

I need to display images that are taken in portrait and landscape formats.

Just get the image size attributes, look to see if the width is greater than the height or vice versa.
