Help with RewriteRule

I'm trying to take all references to http://domain.com/clients/. . . and change them to http://domain.com/ccc/clients/. . .

Why doesn't something like this work?
RewriteRule ^{clients/([AZaz09]+)$} ccc/clients/$1

I've put this in an .htaccess file in the root of my htdocs. Using Apache 2 if it matters.

It may be that you have ^ at the beginning of the statement. Remember that ^ signifies the beginning of a line.

According to your statement, [url]http://[/url] would be the beginning of your line.
