PHP software development using modules

Hello,

I want to ask where I can find information (tutorials, books) about
programming PHP software using modules. How to write core applications,
when how to write modules for it, how to implement such things. I know
that I can invent my own way of creating moduled software. But I think
there is generic guidelines for such programming. If you know any
resources, please share.
