HELP! Import CSV file on my hard drive to my php script

i want to have a form on my website where users can browse their local hard drive, find the csv file they want to upload or view, and when they hit submit they can see the data that was in the csv file.

this is going to be used in a script i am making that will allow people to import email addresses from a cvs file they have on their computer to an online contact list.

every bit of code i tried does not work unless the csv file is located on the webserver. does it have to be? can i even open up a file that is local on my hard drive? PLEASE HELP this is frustrating me and i have been searching for days to figure this out. THANKS!!

PHP is server side only and can NOT open files on a user's computer (it can only open files on the server/computer its running on).

To do this, you'll have to have the user upload their file to your server and then you'll need to process the file and extract the data you want.
