How can I view my error log?

I have heard from Bret and few other senior members that I should look at "error log" numerous times. Well, I just tried to do that.

First I am assuming you are talking about Apache Error log and not the PHP. If you are talking about PHP "erroe Log" I have no idea where it is! Would you please point me to the right direction.

I did however checkout my Apache "error log" and this was the result:
When I clicked on the "view Error Log" for apache my notepad window opened and another window opened as well Simultenously giving me this messege:

The C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\logs\error.log file is too large for notepad.

Use another editor to edit the file

I moved on to use Microsoft Windows since I work in the win XP environment and this is what I got from that:

There is a serious disk error on file error.

Frankely I have ran out of editors and I can't get my Apache Error log open. Any suggestions?

Do you have Apache running while you are doing this? If so shut it down first.

I tried what you asked by shutting Apache down before checking my error logs in Apache. Same exact errors still hold true!
