comparing data from a form to data in a db

I'm trying to compare data from a form to data in a db, but nothing shows up.

Is it my syntax? I'm a newbie to php.

Heres my code:

$query = "select * FROM planinfo WHERE ($POST['neighborhood'] = homePref) and ($POST['homeType'] = homeType) and ($POST['stories'] = stories) ($POST['beds'] = bedrooms) and ($POST['squareFt'] = squareFootage and ($POST['price'] = price)";

$result = mysql_query($query) or die ("Error in query: $query. " . mysql_error());
while (mysql_num_rows($result) > 0)
$row = mysql_fetch_object($result);

without knowing your data structure, it looks like you have all of your fields/values reversed. don't you mean this:

dbConnect('dbName');

$query = "SELECT * FROM planinfo WHERE 
homePref = '" . $_POST['neighborhood'] . "' AND 
homeType = '" . $_POST['homeType'] . "' AND 
stories = '" . $_POST['stories'] . "' AND 
bedrooms = '" . $_POST['beds'] . "' AND 
squareFootage = '" . $_POST['squareFt'] . "' AND 
price = '" . $_POST['price'] . "'";

$result = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error());
if (mysql_num_rows($result))
{
	while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result))
	{
		print_r($row);
	}
} 
else
{
	echo 'no records found matching that criteria';
}

I forgot that I needed to compare an integer value of bedrooms, squareFootage, and price because I have >= & <= values to compare.

Would I do it this way:

$beds =$POST['beds'];
$squareFt=$POST['squareFt'];
$price=$_POST['price'];

$query = "SELECT * FROM planinfo WHERE
homePref = '" . $POST['neighborhood'] . "' AND
homeType = '" . $POST['homeType'] . "' AND
stories = '" . $_POST['stories'] . "' AND
bedrooms >= '" . $beds . "' AND
squareFootage >= '" . $squareFt . "' AND
price <= '" . $price . "'";
