How would i do this?

Sorry if i posted in the wrong forum!

i am a newbie but i pick things up quickly.
Shouldnt be no problem if you can help, its a tricky one.

i want to build a site like http://www.face-pic.com , i had a friend who made a similar site. almost identical. http://facehood.com

I know you need to use php and need a database ( i have mysql).
php4 and use phpmyadmin 2.6 i'm sure.

I would like to know where i should start and if someone could just show me how to begin with developing a registration page and a login page.

Any help would be taken gratefully, i'll also let you know how its going.

Here's what you would have to look at, other than the manual:

Form Submission
Submitting the form back to itself, or to a different PHP script to set certain variables.

Setting Sessions/Cookies
You will have to decide how you want store the values you want for each user, and whether they're logged in or not. Cookies are stored client-side and are better for keeping someone "always" logged in. Sessions are better for administration type areas.

What Information You Want Stored
What information do you want stored and how? What will the database setup be for the users/administrators. Will you have moderators, or just admins and users?

Password Sensitivity/Encryption
How sensitive are the passwords you are going to store? Do you want to store them as md5() encryption, or would you rather use base64 encoding? Do you want a case sensitive password, or do you not care if there are inconsistencies (spelling?)?

These are all things that you need to think about. Once you have it outlined, things should go easier because it's just a matter of getting the info and comparing it.

thanks for the replies, i fumbled about and done a registration page so now i got to do it properly.

i'm slowly grasping the coding. i'm using dreamweaver mx.
i'm thinking to use sessions ( i keep getting errors however).
both face-pic and facehood are using sessions.

admin and users i think to have.

i am looking to be able to allow users to make a profile page, upload pics, send messages to other users, see other users who are offline or online.

password sensitivity i'm not too sure yet.

how would i be able to make recent users pics show on the index page. there will be a login there aswel.

i might find that out in the manual not sure. will look for scripts could someone post if they of anything that could help me out.

Also i wouldnt mind a few helpers who would like to help on this project? (i'm not sure if you allowed to say that {mod can delete that part if its not allowed}).
