To cut the length of strings down, use:
substr(string name, begin, end)
So, if you had the following:
Hi. My name is Joe, and I work, in a button factory. I've got a wife and kid and a family. One day my boss walked in and said Joe, are you busy I said no. He said "Goooood. Push this button like this."
Now, say you only wanted the first 25 characters returned. You would have the following:
<?php
$string = "Hi. My name is Joe, and I work, in a button factory. I've got a wife and kid and a family. One day my boss walked in and said Joe, are you busy I said no. He said \"Goooood. Push this button like this.\"";
$new_string = substr($string, 1, 25);
echo $new_string;
/* Outputs:
"Hi. My name is Joe, and " (there is an ending space)
*/
?>
