[Resolved] update an entire database

Hi!!
I have a problem:
i'm a novice in mysql and
i need to update an entire database, or substitute the existing for the new one....can anyone help me??

Hi Helldr,

The very simple answer is yes........ but.........

The question may be more complex.

What do you need to update?
Are the updates one off, or regular?
Who is doing the updates (are they being done by users or administrators) ?

These are some of the questions that may need further thought.

If they are simple updates, like adding tables or columns etc, then these can be done using PHP Admin.

Please can you post some more detail then we can help further.

first, thanks for your attention....

well....the database is about schools (name, address,...)....and it is out of date since 2003' , and my professor wants to update it.... can be replacing it... the guy who used to make it isn't with us anymore.....

Does the system work?
Do you want to just empty the tables and start again?
Do you want to add functions to the system?

hehe.....once again

ev'rything's fine and working(only out-of-date)....i just need to update the database....yes, i can empty it(the old data) and fill it with the new data (how do i do it??? : )) ....don't need to increase more functions, can leave it just the way it is

OK,

Thanks for the further information. I would suggest that you use PhpMyAdmin for this job.

This will allow you to backup your data and then either alter the data or empty the tables.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure that you back up your data before you start, just in case you make a mistake while you are changing things around.

There are some functions within phpmyadmin that will empty tables and will also REMOVE tables from your database so make sure that you have copies BEFORE you start.

hehehe....here i am again....(i'm a stupid!!!)

ok...i 've installed PHPMYADMIN on the server....but i'm receiving an error message(#1045 - Access denied for user)..........i think i don't know exactly how to configure the 'config.inc.php' 🙁

can you help me once again???

Hey,

We all have problems with new stuff - it does not make us stupid. Personally, I like to try and learn one new thing each day....

There are details for the quick install here .

Also you can try this for the configuration. You should just find that you need to get this right.
