I've checked into zip code searches and have found the right product now. What I haven't found is a way to treat exceptions. Let me explain.
The purpose for having the zip search locator is two-fold. There is a collection of directory listings and also searches that are made via forms filled out by submitters (forms are matched with companies local to the requested zip).
Company listings across the country aren't a problem, given both zips (company and submitter) and a radius customers can travel to them, or they to the customer. (except for non-covered areas)
What I need is way to handle companies that request either a) regional listings, covering several states per listing or larger geographic areas, or b) nationwide listings, across much of the greater US.
Making multiple contacts for each registrant seems to solve some of the problem (as long as ea. contact is keyed out of the originating table row of course) if the company is willing to submit a number of contacts (one per office) while using a JOIN with the zip -- which must now be located within each of the listings.
But what about a) nationwide listings? Is there a way to enter a wildcard or special character within a zip that can act to expand the territory when queried by the SELECT? Is a range of zips possible? (when most are submitting as 5 digit zips)
