[Resolved] preg_match help

if(preg_match_all("/(.*)(<\?)(.*)(\?>)(.*)/", $contentpages[$arrayelement], $matches)){

That is my statment, here is what I'm matching:

what <? echo "hello what are you doing"; ?> This is a test

It outputs everythings except the first php opening tag. Why is that?

<? won't be visible n normal cases since it open's a html tag (at least your browser thinks so)

ok, but what qualifier do I use if I have several different matches like:

this is a test <? echo "hello"; ?> why is this happening <? echo "I will tell you"; ?>   why don't you stop.

I think I need a match with a qualifier at the end like:

preg_match_all("/somestuffhere/U", $something, $matches);

I dont' know if I need /g /U /x or what. Does anyone know of a good tutorial that shows all of these different things. I have googled, but I haven't found alot on these special endings.

here is my real code:

What is this two {% echo "hello how are do doing"; %} What is this? {% print("This is  a test"); %}  Now wait a second

That is $contentpage[$arrayelement]

echo "<plaintext>";
	preg_match_all("|(.*)(\{{1}%{1}.*%{1}\}{1})(.*)|U", $contentpages[$arrayelement], $matches);
	print_r($matches);

It outputs:

Array
(
    [0] => Array
        (
            [0] => What is this two {% echo "hello how are do doing"; %}
            [1] =>  What is this? {% print("This is  a test"); %}
        )

[1] => Array
    (
        [0] => What is this two 
        [1] =>  What is this? 
    )

[2] => Array
    (
        [0] => {% echo "hello how are do doing"; %}
        [1] => {% print("This is  a test"); %}
    )

)

For whatever reason, it will not give me my last variable in the array which should be 'Now wait a second'

Why is this????

well I ended up using a bunch of explodes to get the job done
