Did anyone else see this on Saturday? As good as the original?

To be honest, not really. I grew up when Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee were playing the Doctor, and they just had that "something" that made the difference. Don't get me wrong - Christopher Ecclestone is a fine actor, but not as Doctor Who. There was just something missing. I think the role needs a touch or eccentricity.

Something that was missing was some half decent special effects to make it believable. In this day and age of technology and CGI, there should have been better attempts at the big pot of blancmage at the end, and the plastic dummies parading the streets.

The only upside was Billie Piper - OK, not as false as the dummies, but not bad.

Would I watch it again? ..... I'll give it one more episode - hopefully (fingers crossed) it will improve!

Do you not think that would have taken away part of the beauty of Dr Who? Like the fact that everyone knew that the darleks had men inside wheeling them around...

You mean there were real men inside the daleks .....

..... I understand what you mean - there has to be that "corny" element to it to keep the tradition going.

I wonder if they'll ever have another K-9 .... and if it could be a different animal, what would they choose?

I liked it much more than I thought I would, and sort of liked the fact the effects were just slightly naff. During all the interviews Ecclestone seemed like he had no enthusiasm for the show at all and kept saying it's for 8 to 10 year olds.
