mysql money format ?

Table has varchar(10) field.
The field stores double/float data. The table has already records.

Is there a way to change type of the field from varchar(10) to money format without
loosing the data?

What is the good mysql format to store type "money"?

changing the column's type to decimal should work

if you are unsure create a new column, run an UPDATE copying the money-value into the new column and try changing the money-column after that

I changed type from varchar to decimal(6,2). It works except one case.

When varchar = 100000. After the update the field is 99999.99
