Script to extract information from web to database

I am doing a project atm and i need 2be able 2 extract certain information from webpages and then put it into my database. The script will be automated and run once a day. I'm not very familiar with Php but was wondering if this would be possible? or suggestions for a language that would? and help would be much appreciated.

very possible. you'd probably want to look at the socket functions in the manual, while your there you may aswell look at the mysql functions too. give yoiu an idea of how to get the stuff into a db.
