I tried using TextEdit, but it wouldn't save a php extension. Then I used MS Word for Mac, and it allowed me to save it as Text Only, and I changed the extension to .php and it seemed to work. Is there something better I could download somewhere? Thanks.

After you try devinemke's excellent one word answer, and you have the temptation to still look around, don't.

Even though BBEdit is HUGELY expensive, its a great editor.

However if your looking for something a little mnore free try TextWrangler
or if your feeling daring learn VIM or Emacs

Personally I use VIM, but it takes a bit of getting used to to say the least.

Also I found this one, havent tried it yet.

If you're going to pay money for it, a better solution could be:

...use Dreamweaver? A friend of mine is using it and he's more than satisfied with it... Of course - when used as a code and not WYSIWYG editor...

I think the best is Adobe GoLive.
