replacing in a variable

Is there a way if the variable contains <blockquote dir="ltr" style="margin-right: 0px"> I can replace everything in the <blockquote> tag with nothing

For example

$quote = "<blockquote dir=\"ltr\" style=\"margin-right: 0px\"><em>Quoting: adam<br />&quot;THis is just a topic to test out the QUOTE feature&quot;</em><br /></blockquote><br/>Hey ADAM whats up?";

I would want to the $quote variable to hold

$quote = "<br/>Hey ADAM whats up?";

I just used explode. It worked out fine..
