Search Help

HI!

I'm looking for a tutorial/online guide to design a multi search form using two select options.
Something like...
http://web2.gov.mb.ca/agriculture/fpd/index.php

I'm fairly new to php and mysql, so any help would be great.

SO far I have

I'm assuming I have to add something into the query on the results page.

At the moment I have

$query = "SELECT * FROM contact, categories, county WHERE categories.categoryID LIKE '$category'";

By the information that you have shown it's difficult to determine what your results page is getting results for. I see you have 3 different tabes: contacts, counties and categories. Typically, when you have a results page, you are showing a list of individual records either from one database table or RELATED tables. It may be that you have contacts with foreign keys that refer to the categores and counties tables. It might be helpful for you to post your table structures.

My full query is...
$query = "SELECT contact.name, contact.address, contact.town, county.countyName, contact.postcode, contact.phone, contact.fax, contact.email, contact.website
FROM contact, categories, county WHERE contact.categoryID = categories.categoryID AND contact.countyID = county.countyID AND categories.categoryID LIKE '$category' ORDER BY contact.name ASC";

Where $category is the variable from the form, but I also need to include the other variable $county.

This is the contact table...

name varchar(30) No

categoryID varchar(50) No

address varchar(200) No

town varchar(30) No

countyID varchar(50) No

postcode varchar(9) No

phone varchar(20) No

fax varchar(20) No

email varchar(50) No

website varchar(50) No

This is the categories table
categoryID int(6) No auto_increment

categoryName varchar(50) No

This is the county table
countyID int(6) No 0

countyName varchar(50) No
