textarea help

Hi,

I'm sorry if this is not the right forum to post this message but i'm hoping someone can help me with this.

I want to know to avoid the textarea to go top when Im iserting text to it. Now, each time I add a <br /> or another things like that, the textarea go back to top. I want it to stay where I added the text.

The best example is Yahoo messenger where in you add message and your textarea in your message window display the latest message you post to it.

Can someone help?

This is a little unclear, can you say it a different way so we get the gist of what your problem is exactly? Also, can you give an example of what is happening? Like a webpage or posting code here?

i have a content.txt that contains

Line 1
Line 2
......
......
/*500 more lines*/
......
Line 502

So my textare will display this 502 lines of word

my problem is, i want my text area to diplay the bottom most text. if my textarea has 12 rows it will display the text from 490 to 502 line.

i hope this is clear now.. thanks for your help

experiment and refine something similiar to this...

$lines = array_reverse(file('/path/to/content.txt'));
for ($i=0;$i<=count($lines);$i++) {
	if (trim($lines[$i]) != "") echo "{$lines[$i]}\n";
}

// or...

foreach ($lines as $line) {
	if (trim($line) != "") echo "$line\n";
}

// ... if you do not need the line index.

Are you after a javascript that will automatically scroll the textarea to the bottom, or has Bretticus solved the problem?

This will work in Firefox and IE, instead of assigning it to a button run it on load, or somewhere

As you can see, it's as simple as you can get.
