That's my usual MO, yes.
David: I just wasn't sure what kind of monitor it was or what apple provided for connectivity. Just for reference to anyone who cares and wants to know:
DB15, aka VGA: standard means to connect analog video devices. Trapezoid connector, 3 rows of 5 pins.
DVI (Digital Video Input?): newer "standard" means to connect video devices using a digital signal. Many mid->high end LCD screens, plasma TVs, etc... have this. Looks like two grids of pins slightly spaced with either a horizontal bar or "plus" next to it
ADC (Apple Display Connector): very similar to DVI, not quite sure exactly how it differs. Looks almost exactly like DVI, just without the space between the two groups of pins. (and the connector border is rounded instead of trapezoid-like)
Now, as far as diagnosing your problem, you're probably going to have to contact apple unfortunately. It sounds like something is wrong either with the power section (does the power /signal LED turn off/on as well?), or the actual electron guns (assuming CRT here). I had problems with the latter on my deceased 22" Iiyama monitor... would've cost more to fix it than to buy another 🙁
