Alternative to Mail command

My hosting provider has the mail function disabled.. does any else know of a good alternative.

As I was making a contact form that emailed the info and message to me...

I guess I could get it to put the info into a mysql database.. but then I would have to check it every second to see if anyone sent anything.

if you have access to your host's SMTP server then you might be able to use PEAR mail
