this won't work because there is an "enter" after the 2 <br>'s, i have tried to remove all /n and /r's and i have tried to replace the last / with /m (multiline) with also no result :S
Anyone ? thnx

Hi RoeZ,

I've had this problem before and was able to solve it with this ...

$array = explode("\n", $string);
foreach($array as $key=>$value){
    $array[$key] = trim($value);
}
$string = join('',  $array);

// Now do your replace stuff

Oh paul i love you 😃 i have puled out all my hairs 😛 thank you sooo much, i really didn't knew why 🙂 i don't totally understand what your code does, but it works great. does it replace my newlines with spaces ? i guesse it does something more because i tried that with str_replace all /n's

uhm btw, if you are still here i might as ask you this now, do you know how i can replace stuff in the //1 only ? maybe this is a stupid question but i ask anyways 🙂

and yet another question, i am so sorry 🙁 what my function does now is take the first Description and the last Solution, but in fact i have 100dreds, what to do to let him take all descriptions and solutions ? a link to a tutorial would be nice too if i ask too much

if you need newlines in the result, try this:

$string = preg_replace('/(Description)(.+)(Solution)/s', 'hoi \\2 hoi', $string);

To resolve the "take the first Description and the last Solution" issue, you can make use of ungreedy matching the preg functions support:

$string = preg_replace('/(Description)(.+?)(Solution)/s', 'hoi \\2 hoi', $string);

btw if you don't want to reuse these parts of the match, you don't acutally need the parentheses around Description and Solution (\2 would become \1 or $1 then).

I don't understand what you are saying here ( sorry not english and newbie ) what do you meen with "ungreedy matching the preg functions support ?"

And what's so different at your code ? the /s ? tried this, but didn't made much difference 🙁 i understand i dont need the first parentheses ( as you call them ) but i need them for other functions, but that's not really my problem...

So even with the /s it takes the first and last.

Hi, sorry for not replying earlier (and for not being clear), but I'm glad you identified the ? as the big difference and figured it out.

Just for the records, the s modifier (as suggested by dewen) would make the pattern match occurences that span over multiple lines, so you would not need to replace linebreaks anymore.

Hope I am clearer this time - English is not my native language either.
