I searched the forum and a few other places to try and find info on how to accomplish this.

I have a site where I post .wmv files of little mini movies I make. And when my viewers click the standard html link it streams the movie I guess is what I'd call it, or auto plays it.

This is killing my bandwidth. I want to make it so I can make a link to these files and when they click it, it prompts them to OPEN or SAVE like I've seen on other sites, then I could leave a message telling them to save the file unless there is a simple way for the only option to be SAVE.

I looked at some different source codes on sites where I saw this accomplished and the link looks like this:

Please help me accomplish this. I'm guessing there must be an exterior file or page that assists in this.

But you're giving me way to much credit as to what I'm doing LOL.

Is there a "For Dummies" way to do this?

Do I download and install a script ro am I trying to write a code?

I'm more like a php coding fetus rather than a newbie.

ok from header manual I could conclude the folowing:

you could make al link to a download.php?file=downloadedmovie.wmv

your site html:

<a href="download.php?file=downloadedmovie.wmv" target="_blank">downloadedmovie.wmv</a>

contents off download.php

header('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="'.$_GET['file'].'"');

Okay so all I need to make a new page and call it:

download.php

In the body of this new page put:

header('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="'.$_GET['file'].'"');

Save "download.php" to my main directory...

And then just add "download.php?file=downloadedmovie.wmv" to the href= on the link I'm making?

EDIT: I just had a peek at an entire download.php file and now see that that's not what I was suppose to do.

then it will send the file in de root directory via header to the browser wich will ask you to save it

I couldn't figure out how to accomplish this myself so I downloaded a free Download Manager Script and installed it.
