Map links using PHP

I am having a site with HTML. I fell If I use PHP it would ease the management.I am a newbie to PHP anyway.My site has lots of link to other sites . Can I create a table with 3 column like

ID description and link

then Pass the ID from the browser (My html page will have a link like http://www.xxx.com/get.php?id=1234) to PHP script to get the link from database then I am thining of using header(location:URL) to load the other site's link.

Do you see any problem with that. Is it a common practice. Or is there a efficient way to do this? If you have any suggestion please let me know,

I'm not sure entirely how your site is set up, and therefore how it would ease management, but it would allow you to insert a link into many pages, and be able to change/update that link from one place instead of many.

Yes, what you've mentioned is probably a very easy yet effective way to go about doing this. I am, however, going on basic information, since I don't know the exact nature of its use on your site, how your site is set up, etc. etc.

brad is right, should be relatively easily done. However, since you are a newbie, you might consider downloading a script written for that purpose from somewhere like hotscripts that is close to what you want and then modify it to suit your needs. That is how I learned most PHP I know.

That being said, I am now going back and dropping all of the 'canned' scripts that I have used and am rewriting them for consistency, etc. However, I don't know if I owuld have learned as much as I have if I didn't start with them.
