[RESOLVED] mod_rewrite in Win32 environment

Anyone ever have any troubles getting mod_rewrite to work on a Windows/Apache install? I have Apache installed on Win2K, and can't get it to work. I've tried countless tutorials utilizing Apache configuration settings, as well as .htaccess, and can't get it working. Typically, I get 404 errors which would indicate to me that it is looking for the literal path, instead of using the rules I have set up... Anyone got any tips for getting this to work?

I have no idea what the problem could be, but maybe you should post your configuration files so people can look for problems.

Ive had the same thing. However for some reason I do not think Apache recognizes .htaccess files within the win32 environment, many have had the same issue, incase it does you may want to view the error logs.

Also just a heads up incase you didnt know, Apache isnt as stable in win32 as with nix.

Definitely post the rules you're trying to test and the access file. In my local apache config I turn off indexing of index.php so I can get a directory index, but usually put a .htaccess in admin sections that do force index.php, and it's worked so far.

Using Apache/2.0.52 (Win32)

planetsim. I know it's more stable in a *nix environment, but we are a WinShop, and I am fighting the IIS demons with my Apache.

If you want problems solved, be specific
and submit the actual thing you are using: code, errors.
Otherwise you most sure, wont get much response or advice.
It may also keep topic being a very general discussion

So tell us man: What is so secret about your rewriting rules?
Maybe somebody else will have some nice use of your tricks using ReWrite ...

Look halojoy,
My last post to this was April of 2005... There's no big secret. Instead of using mod-rewrite, we went with ForceType settings in the .htaccess file, and it works like a champ. Sorry, I forgot to mark the thread from over a year ago resolved.
