Elect the best PHP Editor

Hi everyone,
Myself Brian Anderson. For the last 2 years i have been working as a php-professional. I would like to conduct a poll for knowing which PHP-Editor you guys think is the best and why? I want your co-ops and pls feel free to vote.

I use UltraEdit (http://www.ultraedit.com/) for its integrated FTP client—makes working with remote files feel like working locally.

I personally like EditPlus. It's like $20 - $25 dollars, but the amount you can do is great. I've tried others, and EditPlus just gets down to what you need: A great editor, without the bloat.

Dreamweaver I've found adds useless code to my useless code, which confuses me. I've just found it to be a good reference for making quick and easy stuff, the tweaking or recoding it in EditPlus.

UltraEdit, I didn't find very user-friendly in my eyes. It was a great program, but I just didn't like it.

Notepad2, didn't use it much, but from what I can tell, is a defininte step up from WordPad and Notepad.

I dont often recommend anything as preferences are so individual but i have to say without any reservations eclipse is simply streets ahead of any other, function roll ups, bracket matching, naviagtion logic around your code etc etc, I have gone for job interviews were this is expected as the editor of chioce...

My LOC has improved by at least 25% by switching editors.

I've just never understood the reasons behind such poll choices. SubEthaEdit but no TextMate or BBEdit? No jEdit? No Quanta, Bluefish, Kate, etc...? No UltraEdit or Textpad? Such a large following relegated to "other" 🙁

NetNerd: when you've been around here as long and as active as Piers, we'll see how tolerant you are of the near-monthly repost cycle. (Not saying you won't be tolerant--viewpoints just have a way of changing over time)

Ok, the FAQ is 7th in the list of the echo lounge. Everyone is encouraged to read it. It mentions the thread that I posted to earlier.

I would like to know why 5 people picked Zend. I am currently using PhpED and it does everything you expect from a full featured editor.

I am also interested in phpeclipse as I have not done any research on that editor.

It's more of a plugin than an editor itself. It plugs into eclipse, the Java IDE.

Any chance someone could tell me what makes Zend better then PhpED? Does Zend have auto pop up help. Meaning if I was to type $obj_cart-> it would then popup a little window with all the child and parent classes related to that object?

And on a side note, anytime someone says they do large PHP development with notepad I cringe.

How I love this thing. The email newsgroup is so mega, ultra, most, totally, kick-ass, awsomest, to-the-max, darn, great.

Though i do agree that some topics exist where you can do a search and get back a few thousand results. However, I think this topic should be re-evaluated once every 6 months as new editors keep popping up and existing ones keep improving.

Yes. And if you've documented them properly using phpdocumenter it gives you loads more info too

phpED does all that also, though i have had some problems when working with extended classes. i think i will play around with Zend and if it can pick up extended classes I might be interested.

Do you know if phpeclipse can do this?
