PHP Debuggers

Hey,

I'm looking for a PHP Debugger to use. Was just wondering what you guys all use or if you use one at all. My echo statements just aren't cutting it anymore... 😛

Since you've got it thorpe (and I don't like to drop 300 bucks on an editor), what can Zend Studio do for me that a normal syntax highlighting editor, an FTP tool and the refresh button on my browser cant do?

Basically: Does it improve your productivity? What's so great about it?

well... to be honest, i just got me zendstudio. as in, i havent had a cj=hance to install it yet. being im fighting with a new linux install.

but from what ive read. its more than just a syntax hightlighter. it remembers variables, functions, class methods all sorts of things.

as you start to type a function (even one you've defined) it will bring up hints on the arguments for said function.

it has mysql database intergration built right in. the list goes on.

I tried the Zend IDE trial. Wasn't too happy with it though. Don't know what they were thinking when they wrote that program in Java... And because it's written in Java, it lags my computer making it hard to use. I remember some sexy features though; wicked concept in the wrong language.

Eclipse with the PHP Plugin works very well. But it too is written in Java so a nice fast machine with plenty of memory is required. But the price is right.

i dont know why someone hasn't written an ide for php in php gtk.

now, there is an idea.

There are tonnes of apps, including IDE's, written in PHP-GTK. I tried one of the IDE's once but never got it to run for more than a few minutes. They generally have alot of dependencies and need a specific environment to run in.

Debugging is a bit more sophisticated than viewing the output and/or error messages in a browser. You can trigger small bits of code and get indicators on where the problems are.
