Register_Globals conversion question

This might just be a dumb question.
I have a large site full of $HTTP_GET_VARS and $HTTP_POST_VARS.

Am I right in thinking no damage would be done if I do a global search and replace through all functions, classes, code etc.. :

E.G. find all $HTTP_POST_VARS and replace with $POST and then the same with the $HTTP_GET_VARS replaced with $GET

Obviously with lots of backups, but is the theory sound.....or am I being a jerk that needs to go and read more?

Any thoughts ?

No - that's fine, it's just modernising. As long as the version of php you're running on isn't ancient then $GET and $POST are the way to go.

What about the old declarations in functions. WIll they be okay when changed to say a $POST declaration - is the principal the same?....I ask because you don't have to declare $POST - but is php happy if you do anyway?

aren't there some other tricky rickies I need to look out for?...there's ALWAYS are !

Should I read the book anyway or are you telling me, be cool it really is as simple a that?

(Speaking as a control freak behind schedule who wants to cut a corner or two but is crapping himself when not reading up fully on a subject!)...any pearls welcome.
