I'll give you this story and you can make what judgments about it or me that you want to.
Just as a background: I'm not exactly a small man. I'm 6'5, 260 pounds. I spent quite a bit of time while growing up getting into fights. My dad is an old school biker and taught me how to fight pretty well. My brother is a troublemaker, so most of those fights were on his behalf. When you fight a lot, you get a certain anger instilled in you, and while I have calmed down a lot as I've gotten older, my tolerance level still only goes so far.
Here goes:
I was in my apartment about 3 weeks ago, working. It had been a pretty long day, and I wanted to put some finishing touches on things. Usually when I work, I put on some music to fit my existing mood. At the moment, this happened to be some 70's rock.
Suddenly, I started hearing some bass. Loud bass. Being in an apartment, this isn't too uncommon, but after a minute, it had gotten overwhelmingly loud, and now I could actually feel the thumping. It was so inaudible, that I couldn't really make out where it was coming from, but I definitely couldn't just put up with it any more.
So I put on some shoes and head outside to follow it. It took a minute, but I tracked it down to a jeep in the parking lot, which is at least 100 yards from my apartment. Being that it was so far away, and I could feel the bass, I was already pretty steamed. I walked over to this guy in his jeep, and he turned the music down. The conversation played out something like this:
Me: Can you keep that down?
Him: Why? I don't have to.
Me: Because I can feel it in my apartment, which is way down there.
Him: Yeah, and I paid good money for that.
Me: And I pay good money for my apartment, which you're intruding on.
Him: Well, I don't have to keep it down, and I'll play it how I want to.
Me: If I hear it again, this isn't going to go as well for you.
I walk away, hoping that a threat would be enough to get him to keep it down. Obviously it wasn't, because as soon as I got to my apartment, the music was back up, this time louder than before. I ran back out there, completely steamed. He hopped out of his jeep, and I put a pretty good hurting on him. Then I turned the music down.
Now, most people have mixed reactions to this. Some say I over-reacted. Some think I may be justified. Either way, it's done, and I haven't heard his music since, though I have seen his jeep in the parking lot many times. I personally think that had I called the police, nothing would have happened at all. They'll tell him to turn it down, and they'll drive off. People like this have no respect for other people, and without some sort of personal reminder that bad things can happen to them if they want to act stupid, they'll continue to act stupid.
But that's just my opinion. Sorry for the long post.
