I was recently cutting and pasting a bunch of files from one computer to another (both Windows XP). Since installing a new hard drive in the computer receiving the pasting, it likes to crash. Well, much to my amazement, hundreds of the c&p files were lost when the second computer crashed in the middle of the c&p'ing (thankfully I had backups). Apparently Windows doesn't 'sync' after each c&p? Or does Windows only 'sync' when it wants to? Anyhow, could Windows cause similar data loss with Postgres if Windows crashed after changing a bunch of data? I know there's the 'sync' option in Postgres's config file, but is sync on Windows different than with *nix?
