Did you read the documentation/installation instructions that accompanied the mod?
As I remember, mods for phpbb simply walk you through editing the code of phpbb. They show you what line/text to go to, show you the replacement, etc.
Look for some installation instructions, or just start opening files in Wordpad that came with the mod and look for some helpful info.
