[Resolved] Upload Counter

I was searching through the forum and didn't find anything on this particular subject.

Is there a way to have a counter for your uploads? Like the way AOL does? So people know what percent of there upload has completed?

I am using

$file=$_FILES['ufile']['tmp_name'];
$file2=$_FILES['ufile']['name'];
copy($file,"/tmp/user/reg/$file2");

to do my uploading.

I don't use aol, but you're talking about a progress bar, right?

It doesnt necessarily need to be a graphic bar. It can be a text printout of the file progress...

Is there a way that doesnt require perl?

PHP cannot work in real time, all the php is executed before the page is created and displayed, so, the only way round this would be to keep refreshing the page and somehow keeping the upload going while getting the file progress at the same time, people try to do this all the time, hundreds of previous posts on this, in my opinion go with the above or use javascript!

That is basically what I have been reading. One of the limitations of PHP. I guess I will keep working on a javascript or flash solution.
