a linux question

didn't know where else to post this.... hoping someone can help me.

ive got two machines, both running fedora. (10.1.1.2 and 10.1.1.5) i can ssh from one to the other of these machines in both directions. what i want to know is can i copy files from one machine to the other via ssh.

eg;

$ cp 10.1.1.2@/home/thorpe 10.1.1.5@/home/thorpe

obviously this doesnt work, but it should give you the idea.

any help much appreciated.

Well, there is a Linux/Unix Help forum.

Cant you just copy to your own comp (sftp?) and then transfer?

And then there's sftp, which is basically a CLI ftp client over the SSH protocol, and rsync, which is part of Samba (and therefore probably isn't in some distros default installs, but IDNFS 'cuz I'm a BSD nut) which is supposedly a great replacement for rcp (which is the original, non-secure version of scp that you're using ....

NFS mounts are great for permanently mounting remote folders. If it's a one time shot, I usually use SFTP. Something about SSH2 encrypted packets makes it sexy 😃
